The Haven wants everyone to be able to use our website and visit the centre with confidence. This page explains the access arrangements at the building, our approach to website accessibility and how to ask for support.
Our commitment
Crawley Down Community Centre CIO is committed to making its services, facilities and information accessible. We will consider reasonable adjustments for disabled visitors in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Access needs differ from person to person. Please contact us before your visit if an adjustment or particular arrangement would help you use the centre.
Using this website
We are improving this website with the aim of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
On 14 October 2026, we carried out an initial review of the main pages and common journeys. This was not a full independent conformance audit, so we do not currently claim that every part of the website meets WCAG 2.2 AA.
We aim to make the website:
- clear and consistent, with meaningful headings and links;
- usable with a keyboard and common assistive technology;
- readable when text is enlarged or the page is zoomed;
- understandable without relying on colour alone; and
- supported by text alternatives for meaningful images.
Known limitations and continuing work
- The room and activity calendar and the separate booking portal use third-party systems. Their accessibility may vary. Please contact the centre team if you cannot use either service.
- Some event posters contain text within images. We are adding equivalent event information in text wherever possible.
- Some older documents and PDF files may not be fully accessible. We can provide information in another format on request.
- We are continuing to review keyboard operation, focus visibility, colour contrast, form messages and page layout at high zoom.
Website feedback and alternative formats
If you have difficulty using the website, need information in another format or want to report an accessibility problem, please:
- email mail@cdhavencentre.co.uk;
- telephone 01342 716791; or
- use our contact page.
Please tell us which page or service you were using and what went wrong. If relevant, include the device, browser or assistive technology you were using. We will consider how best to provide the information or service you need.
Visiting The Haven
Step-free access and the lift
The centre can be reached by a step-free route. Work is continuing to remove avoidable external steps and door thresholds or provide suitable ramps.
The public areas on both the ground and first floors are step-free within each level. A lift provides step-free access between the ground and first floors.
The stage in the Dorothy Hatswell Hall is not step-free and there is no lift to the stage. Please contact us before your event if you need to discuss access to the stage or an alternative arrangement.
Parking, toilets and wheelchair access
The car park has designated accessible parking bays close to the centre entrance. An accessible toilet is available on the ground floor.
The main public areas of the building are intended to be wheelchair accessible. We are documenting detailed measurements for entrances, doorways, corridors, the lift and accessible toilet. Please contact us before your visit if you need a particular measurement or want to check that a route or room will meet your needs.
Hearing and communication
The centre does not currently have induction hearing loops. Please tell us in advance if a communication adjustment would help you take part in an activity or event.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the centre.
Sensory considerations
Soundproofing has been installed in the Lounge & Bar to reduce excessive noise. The centre team can discuss the likely environment for a particular activity and any reasonable adjustments that may help.
Ask for support before your visit
Please call 01342 716791 or email mail@cdhavencentre.co.uk to discuss step-free routes, room layouts, the lift, toilet facilities, access measurements, sensory needs or any other support.
The Haven Centre is at Hophurst Lane, Crawley Down, Crawley, RH10 4LJ.
